I was attuned in the William Rand lineage of Usui Reiki in 2000 during a trip to Australia where I met a Reiki teacher (I do not like the term “master”) who recognized an innate ability in me and offered to attune me to Level 3. During the attunement, she received the guidance to attune me to Teacher Level – turns out I had developed my inborn ability for energy work my whole life without knowing it. 

After receiving the attunement, I remembered being about three to four years old and putting my mother’s hand on my scraped knee, asking her to “feel how much it hurt”. She then told me that she could not feel that with her hand; a statement that left me pretty surprised at the time. 

Because I was attuned from zero to teacher in one go, I spent two years studying the modality and working with people of various levels before starting to attune people. In 2011, I was attuned to Unitary Reiki when I spent some time in France and traded attunements with a teacher I met there. Over the course of my work, I realized that my Reiki practice merged with some of the shamanic modalities I was already working with (more on that below). This means that I often receive images that translate what I pick up energetically; this is why I call my version of this multifaceted modality “visionary”.

I believe all humans have the innate ability to channel and transmit energy. This is why we often place a hand on a loved one’s arm or back when they are hurt or in distress. Getting an attunement and embarking on this journey just gives us a “wider straw” to work with and helps us tap into its source more consciously. In all my Reiki work,  I am mindful of tuning in to your unique energetic signature and always respect your innate connection to Universal Energy.

Reiki helps release tensions, and brings about a peaceful loving healing energy that can be applied physically, emotionally, and psychologically. The added information that channels through often sheds light on inner issues and can lead to advice or creative ideas to help anchor the healing work. Sound healing with tuning forks or toning can also be used with this modality.
