HERBS & HEALTH

I was introduced to medicinal herbs by my midwives when I was 19 and I’ve never looked back! I say “medicinal” because herbs have always been a part of my life and I never thought of them as anything other than part of everyday life. I grew up in France and it was common to be given vervain or chamomile tea before bedtime. And when on holidays in Provence, my grandmother would often pick fresh spearmint or thyme to make a digestive after-dinner tea, as well as send us to wildcraft our dinner herbs from the garden.

I also happen to have a childhood connection to homeopathy. My mother was well versed in their use and I was treated with them almost exclusively my entire childhood. I will never claim to be a homeopath but I can share my experience with them and recommend the ones I am familiar with the way I can recommend vitamins or supplements.

In my early 30’s, I became quite ill – my MD later told me he thought I was pre-cancerous – and a new friend turned me on to cleansing as outlined in the very poetically titled book, Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management by Dr Jensen. It was a life-changer… Literally. Within a year, my health had turned around and I was forever convinced of the power of cleansing, I also learned so much about various protocols and supplements such as alfalfa pills, bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, and more!

Then in the late 90s, I spent about a year working at a health food store in Vancouver and took over the herbs and homeopathy sections. It anchored a lot of what I knew and helped me discover my love of helping people with their health issues. In 2009, I spent close to two years working at Self-Heal Herbs, the oldest (and best!) herbal dispensary in Western Canada, This is where my experience and knowledge of herbs really crystallized.

Some of the issues I can help with are digestive troubles, insomnia, joint pain, hormonal imbalance, and more. I can also advise on herbs to take as tonics and to build immunity. I also offer herbal services such as tincturing, in alcohol or glycerin, as well as making salves, lip balms, toothpaste, mouthwash, bath oils and scrubbies, and deodorant.

Consultation sessions are on a sliding scale of $40 to $60 an hour, and other services and product prices vary.
